Dr. Bronwen Carroll
Pediatric Emergency Medicine Physician. Mother of four. Advocate.
With decades of frontline experience caring for children who have been sexually abused, Dr. Bronwen Carroll blends clinical expertise with lived insight as a parent of four children.
Dr. Carroll’s journey as an advocate began unexpectedly, when a trusted teacher in her children’s school was arrested. Asked to help parents in her school community process and respond to their children’s questions, Dr. Carroll was shocked to discover that most parents had never received guidance on how to talk to their children about sexual abuse or pornography – even though approximately 10% of children in the United States experience sexual abuse before they turn 18, impacting far more families than any childhood disease, accident or other trauma, for which parents receive plentiful advice.
What began as a school forum evolved into a mission: to call attention to this public health crisis and empower families with the tools, language, and confidence to protect their children. She is now developing that mission into a book, We Need To Be Talking About This – because we need to be talking about this at home, and we need to be talking about this as a society.
